Melissa Burgess - Associate

Melissa Burgess received her J.D. from the George Mason University School of Law, where she completed a concentration in Homeland and National Security law and served as the Senior Articles Editor of the National Security Law Journal. Prior to joining the firm as a law clerk in 2013, Ms. Burgess interned in the Meese Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at The Heritage Foundation.


A Montana native, Ms. Burgess graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in French and a B.Mus. in Violin Performance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. In between her undergraduate studies and law school, she spent a year teaching English in Béthune, France.


At Mark Barnes & Associates, Ms. Burgess focuses on import and export controls and regulatory compliance for defense manufacturers.

Ms. Burgess is a member of the District of Columbia bar and the Virginia State bar.
